Clear the surface
Clean Now moves eligible files and ordinary folders into Ensconce Inbox, in a dated batch within the same source folder.
Let the library catch up
Names appear first. Supported screenshots and documents gain OCR and semantic indexing as processing completes. Cloud downloads happen afterwards.

A daily reset
Give each enabled folder a daily cleanup time. The default is 6 pm. Enable launch at login so Ensconce is available when you need it.
Search inside screenshots
Look for words captured in an image using OCR, or use semantic search when you remember the subject rather than the filename.
iCloud stays iCloud
Originals remain inside their source folder. A cloud-only file can clear before its download and analysis finish.
Undo a cleanup
Return a batch to its original locations from cleanup history. If another file now occupies a location, Ensconce keeps the conflict for you to resolve.
You set the pace
Pause background processing, reveal originals in Finder, and see library, cloud-wait and indexing status. Clearing does not wait for the processing queue.
Keep folders together
Folder structure is preserved. Unsupported files remain available by name and metadata; audio and video content are not indexed in this release.
Your files have a home.
They don’t need another cloud.
OCR and semantic indexing run on your Mac. Ensconce keeps the originals in your chosen folders, with a local catalogue. Optional cloud AI uses the provider you configure; it is separate from clearing.
Local diagnostics record cleanup and processing timings. This website has no analytics scripts. Licensing, update checks and any cloud provider you enable can involve network requests.

Clearing should never wait for AI.
Ensconce separates moving files from understanding them. That means a growing processing queue does not have to become a growing Desktop.
In a development run, 37 top-level items moved in 22 ms. A recent 412-file batch finished with 410 files OCR- and semantically indexed, and two media files retained with metadata.
Observed on one development Mac. The move timing excludes Finder rendering and indexing. Results vary with your Mac, files and cloud availability. Desktop cleanup was also tested successfully by the owner.
A quieter Desktop is coming.
The first release is being prepared for direct download. Checkout and the public installer will appear here after release verification. Pricing, currency, trial and update terms are not yet final.
A few things worth knowing.
Does clearing delete my files?
The quick-clear workflow moves originals into a dated Ensconce Inbox inside the source folder. It does not trash them. Cleanup history provides undo, with protection against overwriting replacements.
Will this free disk space or fix every slow Mac?
Moving files into an inbox does not free disk space. Ensconce is a file cleanup and search tool; it does not promise to fix operating-system crashes or other causes of poor performance.
Do I have to wait for iCloud?
Clearing and content processing are separate. Cloud-only content may need a download before OCR and semantic indexing can complete, especially offline.
Does it organise everything with rules?
Quick clearing uses dated inboxes. Rule previews are a separate feature. Automatic rule-based deletion and moving everything into a different archive are not part of the quick-clear workflow.
Which Macs can run it?
macOS 26 or later on Apple Silicon, M1 or newer. This release does not support Intel Macs.
Can I buy it in the Mac App Store?
The first release is planned for direct distribution. A Mac App Store edition is not currently available.
